Director |
About the Institute :
Indo German Training Centre (IGTC) at Mumbai, is an educational
endeavour of the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce. It was established
in 1991, and holds a unique place in India's prestigious B-schools as
the only institute imparting a "practice oriented" business
administration course, based on the German dual system of higher
education.
The concept of German Dual System or Cooperative Education
The
German Cooperative education is Practice Oriented education. It
alternates study in the classroom with comprehensive on-the-job topic
linked training in participating companies. The timely practice
session immediately following classroom study of subjects, accords it
unique importance and has proved to be an excellent concept in
achieving quality. The integration of companies as active partners
into the system of cooperative management education fulfills an
important corporate requirement for more practical orientation at this
level of education and prepares future executives with strong
execution skills of management concepts. Therefore, the
cooperative
concept of education offers an attractive alternative to the
traditional management education, leading to highly qualified
products.
The dual system of learning, in which educational
institutions and employers cooperate, has a long tradition in Germany
and is credited with significant contribution to the positive growth
of its economy. In 1972, three global companies in Germany – Bosch,
Daimler Benz and SEL, together with the Chamber of Commerce and the
Academy of Business and Administration (VWA), took the initiative to
apply the principles of the dual system of vocational training to
further fields of business and engineering education. In 1974, the
new project Berufsakademie, aimed at creating a fully integrated
system of higher education, was launched. There are 18 Berufsakademie
institutes located all over Germany and operate in cooperation with
over 8000 companies, benefiting more than 26,000 students per year.
Global Impact
The
growth of cooperative education world-wide is quite impressive.
Former U.S. President, Mr. Bill Clinton, had it implemented in the
States of Florida, North and South Carolina and New Hampshire.
According to a report, in the USA, there are more than 97,000
companies, enterprises and government agencies involved in such
programmes. Berufsakademie's partnering institutions in Brazil,
Canada, Chile, China, France, Georgia, Greece, Finland, Hungary,
Israel, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Russia, Spain, South Africa,
and Switzerland, are implementing the concept widely.
IGTC tie-up with the University of Cooperative
Education – Berufsakademie, Karlsruhe, Germany
IGTC has pioneered in bringing this great educational alternative
of cooperative education to our management aspirants, with a tie-up
with the Berufsakademie, Karlsruhe, Germany.
The Berufsakademie, Karlsruhe, founded by the Government of
Baden-Wuerttemberg in 1979 has more than 900 participating companies,
responsible for training 1,800 students.
It offers study programmes and training facilities
in the fields of business administration, engineering and social work.
Main Objectives of IGTC
- To
select management trainees having the desired aptitude suitable to
corporate requirements.
- To equip future young executives with strong implementation skills
of the fundamentals of management.
- To provide a powerful platform which brings good corporates and
quality future managers together for mutual benefits.
- To establish a topic wise linkage between theory and practice by way
of comprehensive training in participating companies.

and creativity in students.
